Travellin' Man
By Pink Anderson
Well I'll sing you a song 'bout a travellin' man
He was born in Tennesse
He made his living stealing chickens
And anything else he'd see
Well the police got right after that fool
He surely could open the road
No matter how fast that freight would pass
That fellow'd get on board
I'm singin' travellin' man
Must be travellin' man
Travellin' fool
Fastest feller in the land
Travellin' man
He's known for miles around
Well he ran so fast that he didn't get caught
'Till the police shot him down
Well this travellin' man's mother sent him to the Spring
To get a pail of water
The distance that he had to go
Was about two miles and a quarter
Well he went and got that water alright
But he stumbled and fell down
He ran back home got his mother's other pail
Caught the water 'fore it hit the ground... That's travellin'
Travellin' man
Must be travellin' man
Travellin' fool
Fastest feller in the land
Travellin' man
He's known for miles around
Well he ran so fast that he didn't get caught
'Till the police shot him down
Well this travellin' man went on the big Titanic
To sail the ocean blue
He came on deck, saw the big iceberg
And overboard he flew
Well the rich folk all come up on deck
Said that fella must be a fool
But when the Titanic when down
He was shootin' craps in Liverpool
Travellin' man
Must be travellin' man
Travellin' fool
Fastest feller in the land
Travellin' man
He's known for miles around
Well he ran so fast that he didn't get caught
'Till the police shot him down
Some men got into an automobile
And got right after that fool
He ran from six one morning
'Till the next days afternoon
That fella could run so cockeyed fast
Like a fly flew from his heels
He said goodbye to the farmer's crops and corn
As he ran through the farmer's fields
Travellin' man
Must be travellin' man
Travellin' fool
Fastest feller in the land
Travellin' man
He's known for miles around
Well he ran so fast that he didn't get caught
'Till the police shot him down
Well the police sherif got a six gun
Shot the feller right through the head
And the news spread over the country
That the travellin' fool was dead
Well they send down South for his mother
She come straight away in tears
They opened up the coffin lid
That fella had disappeared
Travellin' man
Must be travellin' man
Travellin' fool
Fastest feller in the land
Travellin' man
He's known for miles around
Well he ran so fast that he didn't get caught
'Till the police shot him down
