Blood Water
By The Chapin Brothers
[spoken]
In the Spring of 1964, at Cronell University
a young girl feel 98 feet to her death
in one of the gorges adjoining the campus
It is the custom at Spring weekend
For the faternities to dye the gorges a color
And that year it happened to be red.
Let me tell you how they named this river
They call it blood water run
When the water run red that's the name they give her
Run blood water run
Early one Spring just before the plowing
The girl disappeared in the night
They say she'd run off her young blood allowing
With her it just didn't seem right
A girl like that just as fair as a flower
Sneaking off just weren't her kind
But she'd trust any man even a coward
It was easy to guess what they'd find
They found her body down by the river
Lying face down in the sand
They found the ring that someone had give her
Clutched tight in her hand
Never did find how she got in the river
Or what hit her hard in the head
One of those things you can never discover
The only one who knows is dead
Some say the red is the glow of the sunset
Some say the red's from the clay
But it weren't that way 'till that girl had her blood let
The waters run red since that day
Let me tell you how they named this river
They call it blood water run
When the water run red that's the name they give her
Run blood water run
Run blood water run
